The Master System (often abbreviated as MS) is a 16-bit video game console manufactured by Sony Computer Entertainment, announced on September 24, 1985, and released in Japan on February 9, 1986. It was the successor to the PlayStation.
The System is one of the first examples of a polygonal 3D video game console, like the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Master System can be used to play games from two different generations of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the original Nintendo Entertainment System and features a number of features that were previously available only in arcade games.
